Economic espionage

The Israeli firm NSO is grappling with the fallout of a vast electronic espionage scandal. It turns out that it spied on many politicians, media personnel and business executives, without their knowledge. Not surprisingly, many people are angry. In this edition of Economic Divide, we will look at the Pegasus scandal in detail, especially its economic and business aspects, and question whether the company is guilty or should Israel also share the blame?

The fallout from the Pegasus software, that it spied on a variety of sectors and demographics, from politicians and business executives should not really comes as a surprise. After all, for people who are familiar with the surveillance industry, Israel is a hub for surveillance technology.

It appears that Israelís decades long occupation of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem, along with its periodic wars “provides a laboratory for testing and fine tuning different commodities that are created or different technologies.”
