Zalmai Rassoul endorses Abdullah in election runoff
Zalmai Rassoul endorses Abdullah in election runoff

Presidential runner Zalmai Rassoul on Sunday announced to support Abdullah Abdullah in the second round of election.

Zalmai Rassoul is the second presidential candidate to endorse Abdullah in the second round of election.

Zalmai Rassoul’s electoral team said they will support Abdullah Abdullah’s team during the second round of election based on an agreement that the two teams will work on decentralization, change in electoral laws and continuation of peace process.

Rassoul said the people of Afghanistan proved that they are willing to move towards political and cultural stability and said his team remains thankful for their votes.

He said the decision to support the reform and partnership in election runoff was taken after consulting with his team members considering the political stability and national unity of Afghanistan.

Gul Agha Sherzai who had secured 106,673 votes in the preliminary vote results also endorsed Abdullah in the election runoff earlier this month.

Zalmai Rassoul was put in third place after the Independent Election Commission of Afghanistan (IEC) announced the preliminary vote results last month.

He had secured 11.5 percent of the total votes counted for the announcement of the preliminary vote results.
