The 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) opened with the film "There Is No Good Man" directed by Afghan filmmaker Shahrbanoo Sadat.
According to AnsarPress, Sadat`s film was screened yesterday afternoon in a special section of the Berlin International Film Festival.
In an interview with Reuters, Sadat described the screening of her film at the festival`s opening as "a very positive step" for Afghanistan cinema and said she was excited about the development.
She added that the film provides an opportunity to counterbalance the predominantly bleak narratives about Afghanistan in global cinema.
"When international filmmakers make films about Afghanistan, they are often very sad," she said.
However, according to the director, everyday life for Afghans is not so one-dimensional. "They are like other human beings," she noted, "living simply in a different geography, with both sorrow and joy."
Sadat also appears in the film as the lead actress. She decided to step in front of the camera after the original lead actor withdrew from the project.
Shahrbanoo Sadat has previously directed several short and feature-length films.
Among her earlier works, Wolf and Sheep (2016) was screened in a sidebar section of the Cannes Film Festival and received an award.
