A shooting at an apartment complex has left 3 people dead in Arlington, Texas, as the police have launched an investigation into the case.

Police said the shooting took place on Thursday night at around 8:30 p.m. local time,

They did not immediately identify the victims and no suspects have been arrested so far.

Police said they were still working to determine how the victims were connected, but officials believed all three were "affiliated" with the apartment.

A witness called 911 saying he heard something. When he went to see what it was, he found a man lying unresponsive outside an apartment. The witness also said the door to the apartment was kicked in, according to CBS News.

The man lying on the ground with gunshot wounds later died at the hospital.

A man and a woman were also found shot dead inside the apartment.

Police believe the killer forced his way in before firing. They do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the public.

Two children were inside the apartment at the time and witnessed the shooting. They were not hurt and were later released to a family member.

It’s unclear how they are connected to the victims.

Arlington is located about 24 km east of Forth Worth and about 32 km west of Dallas.

There have been more than 600 mass shootings, averaging almost two a day, in the United States since 2019.

Democratic US President Joe Biden has called on Congress to address the issue, urging lawmakers to ban assault weapons.

However, Republicans are staunch promoters of US gun culture and adamantly adhere to the Second Amendment of the US Constitution (right to bear arms), opposing strict bans on guns

A Gallup poll from October 2022 showed that the majority of Americans are in favor of gun control, saying they want stricter laws for the sale of firearms.

There are an estimated 393 million civilian-owned firearms in the US. Approximately, one-third of the adult population in the United States, which equates to 82,880,000 people, own at least one firearm.
