Iran contributes medical equipment to Afghanistan to fight virus

Afghanistan is grappling with the COVID-19 crisis as the pandemic has reached its peak in the country.

Lack of appropriate equipment as well as other logistic problems have hampered the Afghan government efforts to properly contain the pandemic.

So far a number of regional states have rushed to help Kabul, including Iran. Tehran has donated some key medical equipment to Afghanistan.

In a ceremony, [the] Iranian ambassador to Kabul delivered 11 tons of medical equipment, including sanitizers, ventilators, test kits and facial masks, to the representatives of Afghanistan’s foreign ministry and public health ministry.

Praising Iran’s decades-long support to the people and government of Afghanistan, Afghan officials attending the ceremony called for further cooperation with Iran only in fighting the COVID-19 but also in other areas.

Afghanistan is grappling with the pandemic amid poverty and insecurity which has engulfed the country over the past decades. So far, the government’s measures have failed to contain the virus which is spreading through the country rapidly.

Based on official figures, over 15 thousand individuals have been infected with the COVID-19 so far. Health authorities here say the pandemic has reached its peak and more infection cases are expected to be confirmed. That is why Kabul welcomes any foreign support to help it in fighting the disease.
