The Carnival of Huejotzingo, one of the most representative in Puebla, once again filled the municipality`s streets with music, dance, and gunpowder in its 158th edition, through a celebration that combined cultural heritage and historical identity.

Images recorded on Sunday show hundreds of dancers in traditional costumes who danced and carried out gunpowder shots with rifles made of wood with pre-Hispanic designs called muskets.

The reenactments represent the Battle of May 5, 1862, fought near the city of Puebla between the Mexican Army and the French during the Second French Intervention, a confrontation in which Mexican forces emerged victorious.

The activities began this Saturday and will conclude next Tuesday, February 17. The participation of more than 70,000 dancers and an attendance of 200,000 people is estimated.
