Andrew looped Epstein into `confidential` memo on investment opportunities in Afghanistan
Opium, uranium, and other mineral and precious stone resources were among the factors that made Helmand a province of significant interest to foreign actors.
Prince Andrew shared a confidential memorandum on investment opportunities in Afghanistan with Jeffrey Epstein just weeks after claiming he had ended his friendship with him. According to newly released documents from the U.S. Department of Justice related to the Jeffrey Epstein case, an email from Prince Andrew (Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor), the former Duke of York, has been disclosed in which he forwarded a confidential investment document concerning Afghanistan`s Helmand Province to Jeffrey Epstein. AnsarPress reports that the email was sent on December 24, 2010, and included an attachment titled "Helmand Investment Opportunities Brief Final.doc." The document was a confidential summary prepared by the United Kingdom`s Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Helmand Province, outlining investment opportunities in the war-affected province. At the time, Helmand was under the control and oversight of British armed forces, and many projects there were funded primarily by the UK government.
In the body of the email, Prince Andrew wrote: "Attached is a confidential brief prepared by the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Helmand Province for international investment opportunities. These opportunities are not exclusive to Helmand but are largely focused on that province. I intend to present this elsewhere within my network (including Abu Dhabi), but I would be very interested in your thoughts, views, or ideas as to whom I might show this to in order to attract attention. Unfortunately, I have already discovered that the Gates Foundation does nothing in Afghanistan." This exchange occurred despite Prince Andrew`s public claim that he had severed ties with Epstein. He had said that his last meeting with Epstein took place in early December 2010 to formally end their relationship. Nevertheless, only weeks later, he shared official confidential information with him. The email does not specify which sectors in Helmand were considered the most promising for investment. However, at the time Helmand was the world`s-and Afghanistan`s-largest producer of opium, a period during which British forces were responsible for security and control in the province. On September 30, 2010, the United Nations reported that Afghanistan produced more than 3,600 tons of opium that year, valued at approximately $604 million. According to the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, 96 percent of this production originated in the southern and western provinces of the country, with Helmand as the primary source. During the same period, some members of Afghanistan`s parliament also raised allegations about uranium smuggling from Helmand. The U.S. space agency NASA estimated the value of uranium deposits in Helmand at more than $1 trillion, while Afghanistan`s Ministry of Mines put the figure at over $3 trillion. Opium, uranium, and other mineral and precious stone resources were among the factors that made Helmand a province of significant interest to foreign actors.
