Iran publishes official list of those killed in January unrest, countering foreign death toll claims.

The Iranian government has published the names of nearly 3,000 individuals killed in the foreign-backed riots of early January to counter highly exaggerated Western death toll claims.

On Sunday, the Iranian Presidency released a statement on its website containing a list of 2,986 people killed. The list included full names, fathers` names, and the last six digits of each individual`s national identity number.

According to the statement, the total number of fatalities was 3,117, with the identities of 131 individuals still pending verification by Iran`s civil registration organization.

It described all those killed as "children of this soil" and affirmed President Masoud Pezeshkian`s commitment to protecting and vindicating their rights.

The Presidency also announced that a dedicated website will be launched within two days to allow families of the deceased to contact government departments directly and resolve related issues.

The release of the list comes four days after Pezeshkian ordered disclosure of the identities of the deceased, as part of an effort to counter Western media reports claiming tens of thousands were killed in the riots.

Many of those named were individuals who organized, participated in, or were caught in the riots of January 8 and 9, as well as police and security personnel targeted by the armed terrorists.

A government statement issued in late January indicated that over 600 of the deceased were rioters and terrorists, with the remainder being civilians and security forces.

Iranian authorities say the United States and Israel incited rioters and terrorists, with their intelligence services providing funding, training, and media backing.

The violence followed days of peaceful protests in Iranian bazaars and marketplaces, where traders expressed anger over a sudden devaluation of the Iranian rial and its disruptive effect on their businesses.
