At least one person has been killed and another injured when the Israeli military conducted an airstrike against an area in Lebanon`s South Governorate, amid the Tel Aviv regime`s repeated violations of a ceasefire in place since late 2024.

The official National News Agency (NNA) reported the strike targeted a vehicle in Jwaya village of the Tyre district on Wednesday.

The Public Health Emergency Operations Center at the Health Ministry confirmed one fatality and one injury.

Lebanese security sources identified the deceased as Hussein Hamza.

Israeli army spokesperson Avichay Adraee later claimed on the social media platform X that the attack targeted a member of the Hezbollah resistance movement.

The deadly airstrike came hours after a multinational US-led committee tasked with overseeing the 2024 ceasefire agreement held its first meeting this year.

A parliamentary source said Israel was seeking to "impose its agendas and priorities" on the ceasefire agreement by intensifying airstrikes in recent days, despite the Lebanese government moving ahead with troop deployment plans.

"The government is working according to the army`s deployment plan, but Israel wants to reorder the priorities," the source said.

Two people were killed, and a third was injured in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon on Tuesday. The Health Ministry said the fatalities occurred when an Israeli drone carried out a strike in the town of Kafrdounin in the Bint Jbeil district.

Since the ceasefire took effect last year, Israeli attacks have killed hundreds of Lebanese citizens.

Under the truce agreement, Israeli forces were expected to withdraw from southern Lebanon by January. However, the withdrawal has been only partial, with a continued military presence at five border outposts.

On December 18, French, Saudi Arabian, and American representatives convened in Paris with the leader of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to discuss and finalize a roadmap aimed at establishing a mechanism for disarming Hezbollah.

The meeting came as part of continued pressure aimed at forcing Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah.

The resistance group maintains it will not disarm while Israel occupies southern Lebanon and carries out attacks in the region.
