Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), said cooperation between Tehran and Islamabad across various fields strengthens regional peace and stability, highlighting Pakistan’s pivotal role.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival in Islamabad on Tuesday morning, Ali Larijani said, "Pakistan is an important country in the region and has a privileged position in terms of influencing the security situation in the region."

Hailing "deep and historical" relations between the countries, he added, "Today, in the changing conditions of the region, cooperation between Iran and Pakistan in various fields can contribute to regional peace and stability."

He hoped that these issues would be addressed in the talks he would have during his visit to Pakistan.

Larijani is scheduled to meet with high-ranking political and military officials of Pakistan during his two-day visit to deepen bilateral cooperation and advance their joint agreements - with a strong focus on regional security, border management, counter-terrorism, trade, and broader issues affecting the Islamic world.

Before leaving for Islamabad, Larijani wrote on his X account on Monday that he was traveling to Pakistan, "our friendly and brotherly country in the region."

Referring to Pakistan`s support for Iran during the US-Israeli aggression in June, he added, "Iranians do not forget that during the 12-day war by the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran, the Pakistani nation stood by the Iranian nation."

In October, during a meeting with Pakistan`s Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi in Tehran, Larijani underlined the geopolitical importance of both countries in regional equations.

Larijani said today`s regional environment is marked by shared challenges and adversaries, requiring "tangible, coordinated, and comprehensive action among Muslim nations."

He also emphasized the need to deepen cooperation in security, defense, political, and especially economic fields.

Pakistan, Iran`s most populous neighbor, has pledged alongside Tehran to raise bilateral trade from over $3 billion to $10 billion by removing barriers and pursuing targeted planning.
