The Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs (MoHRA) on Sunday called on the national security council to draw up a new security plan to safeguard mosques and other religious establishments in the country following Friday's deadly attack on Imam Zaman mosque in Kabul.

The deputy minister of hajj and religious affairs called on all security institutions to increase security measures at mosques and religious facilities as soon as possible.

We have sent a plan to the security council for the security of mosques, because all mosques in Afghanistan are under threat, said deputy minister of hajj and religious affairs Dayee-ul-Haq Abid.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said it has been trying to improve security at mosques.

We are taking this issue very seriously; we raised the issue at our emergency meeting yesterday in which police were asked to ensure the security of mosques, said MoI spokesman Najib Danish.

In addition, the office of the CEO Abdullah Abdullah said that terrorists in joint collaboration with regional intelligence agencies are trying to create sectarian division in the country by carrying out coordinated attacks on mosques.

Unfortunately the terrorist groups in joint cooperation with intelligence agencies in the region are trying to introduce such a problem in Afghanistan, but they have failed to divide the people and they killed only innocent people, said CEO spokesman Mujiburrahman Rahimi.

I lost my two roses, said Mohammad Nabi, referring to the killing of his parents at Imam Zaman mosque in Kabul on Friday, adding that the terrorists are enemies of Islam and they will fail to split the Shia and Sunni in Afghanistan.

On Friday four insurgents, who claimed to be associated to Daesh, stormed a grand mosque in the Afghan capital killing over 30 people and wounding dozens more. The attack on the mosque was widely condemned by local and international organizations and people from all walks of life.

This is the sixth attack on a mosque this year. Four have taken place in Herat and two in Kabul.
