National Resistance Council strongly criticizes the handover of the Afghanistan embassy in India to the Taliban; "It is a hasty decision and contrary to reality"
The National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan says that transferring the country`s embassy in India to the Taliban would be "a hasty decision and one that runs counter to the objective realities of Afghanistan." According to AnsarPress, the council said in a statement: "Engagement and normalization of relations with the Taliban-an extremist and terrorist group that does not represent the people of Afghanistan-and doing so in light of India`s long-standing and close relations with the Afghan people, is unexpected and unjustifiable." The council added that "engaging with and recognizing the Taliban would entail negative and irreversible security and social consequences at both regional and international levels, and would undermine the international community`s efforts to achieve sustainable peace and a rules-based order grounded in international principles." The National Resistance Council for the Salvation of Afghanistan further stated: "We expect the Government of India, a long-standing friend of the Afghan people, to continue its cooperation with the people of Afghanistan and their genuine representatives, taking into account shared historical and cultural ties and the country`s objective realities." The council also called on the international community to address the dire situation in Afghanistan based on international law and with due regard for the will of the Afghan people. India proposed handing over Afghanistan`s embassy to the Taliban following a visit by Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban`s foreign minister, to the country in October last year. More recently, the Taliban have sent Noor Ahmad Noor, a senior official of their foreign ministry, to New Delhi as the acting head of the mission.
