Esmail Baghaei, spokesperson for Iran`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said that investigations into the killing of General Ekramuddin Saree, former police chief of Takhar province, and Mohammad Amin Almas, a former Afghan military officer, are ongoing.

According to AnsarPress, Baghaei said at a press conference that the incident has been closely followed by Iran`s security and law-enforcement authorities from the outset.

He stated that such acts are condemnable and added that, if necessary, Iran`s diplomatic apparatus will also become involved in the matter.

General Ekramuddin Saree, the former police chief of Takhar, and Mohammad Amin Almas were shot and killed last Wednesday in Tehran`s Valiasr Square.

Tehran Governor Hossein Khosh-Eghbal said on Saturday that authorities are investigating the killing of the two Afghan military figures but have not yet reached a "final conclusion."

He had promised that the results of the investigation would be announced on Sunday; however, no findings have been released so far.

Prior to the killing of Saree and Almas, another former Afghan military officer close to jihadist leader Mohammad Ismail Khan was also assassinated in Mashhad, Iran.

Political groups opposed to the Taliban claim that these killings were carried out by the Taliban and have called on Iran to investigate the matter seriously.
