Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan Janan Mosazai has said that majority of militants fleeing military operation in the tribal agencies of Pakistan join Islamic State (IS) in Afghanistan.
While talking to a seminar in Islamabad, Mosazai said about 60 to 70 per cent militants who have fled Mohmand and Orakzai agencies in the tribal built have crossed the border into Afghanistan and joined Daesh.
Mohmand Agency shares a border with Kunar and Nangarhar provinces from where they enter into Afghan territory.
Orakzai Agency does not have a border with Afghanistan but militants in this area use the bordered Kurram and Khyber agencies as their routes to reach to Afghanistan.
Mosazai’s concern comes amid growing fear that Daesh plans to establish its regional base.
The group mostly operates in remote areas of the eastern province’s particularly Nangarhar but they have also extended their attacks to Jalalabad city, the provincial capital of Nangarhar.
It carried out a deadly attack in the capital city yesterday in which seven security personnel lost lives.
