Schiff: ‘The public has turned against’ Trump
Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) claimed Sunday that the "public has turned against" President Trump, whose polling numbers have recently slumped following multiple controversies. "The public has turned against him. In every election we`ve had since his election, the voters have swung wildly against him. And as you know, he said at that prayer breakfast, his ego cannot stand another loss," Schiff told ABC News`s Jonathan Karl on "This Week." "So, we have to prepare for the worst. We have to prepare in every way we can. And frankly, the best preparation we have is not the Congress because Republican senators, for the most part, are not going to stand up to him," he added. In a polling average from Decision Desk HQ, Trump`s approval rating sits at 42.7 percent and his disapproval rating sits at 54.6 percent. Republican and Democratic lawmakers have criticized Trump`s push to nationalize U.S. elections as a risky route in the wake of the president saying Republicans should "take over" the elections` administration. The president`s comments followed Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard being at the execution of a search warrant in which the FBI confiscated 2020 election ballots in Fulton County, Ga. Within the last few months, Trump and his administration have also faced controversy over issues including the killing of two people in Minneapolis by federal immigration agents, affordability and the president`s foreign policy moves. A recent Harvard University/The Harris Poll survey found that a majority of respondents thought that former President Biden was more effective than Trump. In the poll, 51 percent of respondents said Trump was handling his job worse than Biden.
