Taliban group’s shadow governor for northern Faryab province was arrested before he manage to escape to Quetta city of Pakistan.
The Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) said Qari Salahuddin Ayubi was arrested from Herat-Shindand route on Monday night.
A statement by NDS said Qari Ayubi was leading insurgency activities in norther parts of the country, specifically in northern Faryab province.
The statement further added that Qari Ayubi was looking to travel to Quetta city through Badghis, Herat and Kandahar provinces and arrested around 3:00 am from Shinda-Herat route.
According to NDS, Qari Ayubi was looking to leave the country after the Taliban militants suffered heavy casualties during Afghan security forces operations in northern parts of the country.
The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.
Faryab is among the volatile provinces in northern Afghanistan where anti-government armed militant groups are actively operating and frequently carry out insurgency activities.
Despite a month-long operation led by First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum, Faryab still remains volatile where periodic insurgency activities are reported.
