Walz rips Trump after deadly ICE shooting in Minneapolis
Outgoing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) railed against the Trump administration after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer shot and killed a woman in Minneapolis on Wednesday. "What we`re seeing is the consequence of governance designed to generate fear, headlines and conflict," Walz said at a presser, noting that he issued a warning order to prepare the Minnesota National Guard if troops are needed amid any possible unrest. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Trump administration officials characterized the shooting as defensive amid "domestic terrorism," as protesters sought to block law enforcement operations earlier in the day. "The woman screaming was, obviously, a professional agitator, and the woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self defense," President Trump wrote in a Truth Social post about the person killed. Earlier Wednesday, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) strongly refuted the department`s characterization of the event. "There`s little I can say again that will make this situation better, but I do have a message for our community, for our city, and I have a message for ICE," Frey said. "To ICE: Get the f‑‑‑ out of Minneapolis." In Washington, the Trump administration sought to offer more clarity on the president`s gambit for Venezuela`s massive oil reserves, days after the U.S. captured Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. is close to finalizing a deal to seize between 30 million and 50 million barrels of oil that it intends to sell globally. Proceeds would be directed toward a government transition in Venezuela, he said. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reiterated this at a Wednesday press briefing, adding that the U.S. has already begun marketing the oil on the global market. Earlier Wednesday, the U.S. seized two Venezuela-linked oil tankers in the North Atlantic. One vessel was flying a Russian flag.
