Iran`s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has asserted that the United States bears full responsibility for the potential consequences of any act of aggression it could take against Iran, warning that the Islamic Republic would not hesitate to respond decisively.

The top diplomat made the remarks in a letter addressed on Tuesday to his counterparts worldwide that served as a reaction to earlier threats by US President Donald Trump of taking fresh military action against the Islamic Republic.

The former recalled the fallout from the illegal and unprovoked Israeli-American war on Iran in June, which was faced with calculated and concerted defensive and retaliatory operations by the Iranian Armed Forces, stressing that the consequences of any fresh transgression "will rest squarely with the US."

The Islamic Republic "will not hesitate to respond in a decisive and regret-inducing manner to any act of aggression," he declared.

Araghchi regretted that Trump`s threats reflected Washington`s continued unlawful and aggressive policy, calling them a blatant violation of the international law and the United Nations Charter that prohibited any threat or recourse to force against the territorial integrity and political independence of states.

He, therefore, urged explicit and unequivocal condemnation of such menacing statements by the international community.

Still referring to the 12-day war, the official criticized the US for joining the aggression by attacking Iran`s peaceful nuclear energy facilities in favor of the Israeli regime, which has proven to be the sole possessor of nuclear weapons in the West Asia region.

The foreign minister said such approach was indicative of a double standard and a serious weakening of the global nuclear non-proliferation regime, adding that Washington`s support for Tel Aviv had seriously jeopardized regional and international security.

Warning of the dangers of impunity, Araghchi said that silence in the face of unlawful threats would embolden Washington and Tel Aviv to continue aggressive behavior, posing a direct risk to global peace and security.
