Ahmad Massoud: Iran Must Seriously Investigate the Assassination of General Ekramuddin Saree
Ahmad Massoud, leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, has called on Iran to seriously investigate the assassination of General Ekramuddin Saree and other former Afghan military personnel in the country. According to AnsarPress, Massoud said during an online meeting on Wednesday night that he hopes Iran will take this case seriously and make a decisive decision this time. He compared the assassination of former Afghan military personnel in Iran to the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas`s political bureau, in Tehran, stating that Iran must also "cut off these hands." The leader of the National Resistance Front said that the mindset of those responsible for assassinating Afghan military figures and that of Israel is the same-namely, a "mindset of assassination, elimination, and tyranny." At the same time, he warned that if the current situation in Afghanistan continues, assassinations will spread further, just as they have already reached Tehran and Mashhad. Addressing participants in the online meeting, Massoud said there is no option other than resistance and standing up to the Taliban, because wherever they are, the enemy seeks to "strike at their heads." General Ekramuddin Saree, the former police chief of Takhar province, along with Mohammad Amin Almas, another former Afghan military officer, were shot and killed last Wednesday in Tehran`s Vali-Asr Square. Hussein Khosh-Eghbal, the governor of Tehran, said yesterday that authorities are investigating the assassination of the two Afghan military figures but have not yet reached a "final conclusion." He had promised that the results of the investigation would be announced today, but so far no findings have been released. Earlier, before the killings of General Saree and Mohammad Amin Almas, another former Afghan military officer and an associate of Mohammad Ismail Khan, a former jihadist leader, was also assassinated in Mashhad, Iran. Political groups opposed to the Taliban claim that these assassinations were carried out by the Taliban.
