Imran Khan’s son says Pak ex-PM in ‘death cell’, urges global community to intervene
Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and faces multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism charges, following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
Amid the chaos surrounding the health of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, his son Kasim Khan has claimed that for the past six weeks, his father has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency. He also alleged that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Shareef (PTI) founder has been denied all visits and phone calls despite clear court orders permitting access. He posted on X: "My father has been under arrest for 845 days. For the past six weeks, he has been kept in solitary confinement in a death cell with zero transparency. His sisters have been denied every visit, even with clear court orders allowing access. There have been no phone calls, no meetings, and no proof of life. Me and my brother have had no contact with our father." Kasim also accused jail authorities of deliberately attempting to hide Imran Khan`s condition. "This absolute blackout is not a security protocol. It is a deliberate attempt to hide his condition and prevent our family from knowing whether he is safe."
What Adiala jail had said Earlier on Wednesday, the Adiala Jail administration rejected allegations that Imran Khan had been moved out of the facility. An official said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder was in good health and remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail. Pakistan minister Khawaja Asif further claimed that Khan`s jail menu included food "better than that served at five-star hotels". Kasin Khan further called on the international community and global rights organisations to intervene urgently. "I call on the international community, global human rights organisations, and every democratic voice to intervene urgently. Demand proof of life, enforce court-ordered access, end this inhumane isolation, and call for the release of Pakistan`s most popular political leader who is being held solely for political reasons." Officials have also dismissed speculation regarding his health as "unfounded" and maintained that his condition is being properly monitored. Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023 and faces multiple cases, including corruption and terrorism charges, following his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
