President Trump said Wednesday his administration would review the cases of individuals from Afghanistan who entered the United States during the Biden administration.

Trump`s announcement came hours after two National Guard troops were shot in Washington, D.C. Trump said the suspected shooter is an Afghan national who entered the country during the Biden administration.

"We must now reexamine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden," Trump said in remarks from his Mar-a-Lago property. "And we must take all necessary measures to ensure the removal of any alien from any country who does not belong here or add benefit to our country."

"If they can`t love our country, we don`t want them," Trump added.

On Wednesday night, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services announced it would "stop processing of all immigration requests relating to Afghan nationals."

"The protection and safety of our homeland and of the American people remains our singular focus and mission," the agency said on X.

Thousands of refugees from Afghanistan were admitted into the United States during the Biden administration, which granted protections to asylum seekers from the country.

Trump has sought to drastically reduce the number of refugees admitted into the U.S. since taking office.

"This attack underscores the single greatest national security threat facing our nation," Trump said.

The two members of the National Guard were in critical condition. The suspect in the shooting was in custody.

Trump confirmed that he had preferred an additional 500 National Guard troops be deployed around the District in the wake of Wednesday`s shooting.
