Trump says cordial meeting with Mamdani ‘surprised me’
President Trump heaped praise on New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani on Friday, following their first White House meeting. Trump and Mamdani answered questions from reporters, both striking a remarkably cordial tone, with the president indicating he agreed with many of the mayor-elect`s ideas. "I feel very confident that he can do a very good job. I think he is going to surprise some conservative people, actually," Trump said. At the Capitol, the Senate and House have started their Thanksgiving recesses. But Republicans are still hunting for an answer to the ObamaCare funding issue that brought the government to a screeching halt for 43 days. GOP leaders are trying to coalesce around a unified path on health care, but it`s looking increasingly likely the Affordable Care Act`s (ACA) enhanced subsidies are not going to be part of it. Trump says he would feel ‘comfortable` living in NYC under Mamdani Trump said he would feel comfortable living in New York City while Mamdani is in office. "Yeah, I would. I really would. Especially after the meeting," Trump told reporters when asked that about living in the city. "We agree on a lot more than I thought. I want him to do a great job, and we`ll help him do a great job." Trump went on to explain the crossover supporters he has with populist progressives like Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Trump quips that Mamdani can say he thinks he`s a fascist: `Easier than explaining` Trump intervened after a reporter asked Mamdani if he still thought the president was a "fascist" after their meeting. Mamdani started to answer the question when Trump cut in. "That`s OK, you can just say yes. That`s easier. It`s easier than explaining," Trump said, patting Mamdani on the arm.
