World Food Programme Issues Warning: Hunger Crisis in Afghanistan

The World Food Programme (WFP) has issued a grave warning that Afghanistan`s hunger crisis is rapidly worsening, with severe malnutrition threatening the health and survival of millions of children. The UN agency has called on the international community to provide urgent assistance before the onset of winter, when conditions are expected to deteriorate further.
AnsarPress: the WFP stated that Afghanistan`s food insecurity continues to deepen, as widespread shortages of nutritious food place millions of families-especially children-at risk of hunger and disease.
Due to drastic funding cuts, the agency said it can only support a fraction of vulnerable families across Afghanistan. The approaching winter, it warned, will intensify food shortages, isolate rural areas, and exacerbate child malnutrition.
The WFP emphasized that access to sufficient and nutritious food is a fundamental human right, one that must not be ignored due to financial or political crises. However, under current conditions, millions of Afghans-particularly in remote and conflict-affected regions-are being deprived of this basic necessity.
The agency identified the economic collapse following the suspension of international aid after the Taliban`s return to power in 2021 as one of the main factors behind the funding shortfall faced by humanitarian organizations.
The WFP urged donor nations to act swiftly, warning that without immediate intervention, the coming winter could claim the lives of tens of thousands of Afghan children and families.
"The world must not look away," the statement read. "For Afghanistan`s most vulnerable, this winter will be a battle for survival."
This renewed warning highlights how Afghanistan`s hunger crisis, driven by economic isolation, drought, and underfunded relief operations, has evolved into one of the world`s most severe humanitarian emergencies.
