Iran says its continued contacts with the European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal do not mean the beginning of formal negotiations with the United States.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei made the remarks while speaking to reporters at his weekly press conference on Monday, when asked whether Egypt is a new mediator between Iran and the US.

"Negotiations make sense when the parties reach a consensus and a mutual understanding about respect for each other`s rights and concerns, and engage in dialogue on equal footing," he said.

"Currently, such conditions do not exist," he added.

He emphasized that no ground would be prepared for negotiations and understanding as long as excessive demands and expectations exist.

`Necessary conditions for beginning of formal Iran-US talks not in place`

Baghaei said Iran and the US had been engaged in indirect contacts and exchanged messages through intermediaries as in the past.

However, Iran is not on the verge of entering a negotiation process as the necessary conditions for the start of "formal and serious" negotiations are not prepared yet.

`Resolution 2231 ends with no impact on some fundamental commitments`

Elsewhere in the presser, the Iranian spokesperson said United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorses the nuclear deal -formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), will be deemed terminated as of October 18.

Baghaei, however, added that some of Iran`s rights as per the resolution "will logically remain unchanged."

"This resolution emphasizes Iran`s enrichment [right] and a set of issues that continue regardless of this resolution," he emphasized.

He explained that the US and the European trio - Britain, France and Germany - continue to be regarded as violators of the JCPOA.

Baghaei said during the 19th Midterm Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement in Uganda`s capital, Kampala, on October 15-16, the body expressed its firm support for Iran`s position regarding the illegality of the US and E3`s move in re-imposing the revoked Security Council resolutions.

"This stance was not just a political message, but reflected the international community`s concern about the abuse by certain powers of international institutions and the misuse of the United Nations to advance unilateral policies," the Iranian spokesman emphasized.

`Iran calls on global community not to legitimize reinstatement of sanctions resolutions`

Baghaei said the Security Council has made no "decision" to reinstate the revoked resolutions against Iran.

Iran believes that the "abuse of a process with malicious intent is devoid of any legal value or effect," he added.

He noted that Iran has informed the international community about this reality through different ways and has called on world countries to refrain from any action that would legitimize the claims of the E3 and the US regarding the reinstatement of the sanctions.

"The responsibility for this situation lies with the three European countries, and they must be held accountable for their illegal and destructive move," the spokesman pointed out.
