Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban`s supreme leader, convened a three-day emergency meeting in Kandahar beginning on Saturday, September 28 (12 Mizan), with the participation of provincial governors, district chiefs, and senior group officials.
According to AnsarPress, the gathering focuses not only on determining the fate of the Bagram Airbase but also on internal reforms, tightening information control, and the dismissal of disobedient officials. The Taliban has so far not officially confirmed the meeting.
The move follows recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who called for American forces to return to Bagram. In response, senior Taliban figures-including Fasihuddin Fetrat and Tajmir Jawad-issued strongly worded statements and speeches condemning the idea, warning of renewed suicide attacks should any foreign military intervention occur.
The meeting underscores the Taliban`s deep concern over a possible U.S. return and its efforts to consolidate command structures in anticipation of an external threat. Nevertheless, analysts note that the group`s current military threats and psychological tactics appear more symbolic demonstrations of power than evidence of a genuine capacity to confront an international operation.
