Five people were killed and six other wounded during an attack at a hotel mainly housing foreigners in Kabul.
The attack started at about 09:00 PM last night at Park Palace Hotel located in the Kolola Pushta area of Kabul city.
Soon after the attack started Afghan National Security Forces including Special Forces arrived at the area and began striking back the attackers and also rescuing those under the siege inside the hotel.
Abdul Rahman Rahimi, Kabul police chief says that security forces rescued 54 people from inside the hotel but five people lost their lives.
All three attackers were killed during the attack that lasted for more than five hours.
One U.S. National, two Indians and two Afghans comprised those killed in the attack.
United States embassy in Kabul has confirmed that death of one of American national in this attack.
“Our thoughts are with the families of the victims at this time. Out of respect for the families of those killed, we have no further information at this time,” U.S. embassy spokeswoman Monica Cummings told AFP
A concert attended by foreigners and Afghans was due to began by the time gunmen stormed the hotel.
Taliban militant group claimed responsibility for the attack.
