Afghanistan probes regarding ministerís name on Interpol list

The government of Afghanistan has launched an investigation regarding the new cabinet nominee’s list on International POlice (Interpol) list.

Nazifullah Salarzai, spokesman for President Mohamamd Ashraf Ghani, has said that the government of Afghanistan is in the process of gathering information regarding Mohammad Yaqub Haidari’s name on Interpol list.

He said the nominee shall be dealt with according to the law if the allegations were proven authentic.

Haidari has been nominated as the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in the new cabinet of the Government of National Unity.

According to the information provided on Interpol website Haidari is wanted by the judicial authorities of Estonia for prosecution.

He has been accused of large-scale tax evasion and fraudulent conversion. “Haidari: Wanted by the judicial authorities of Estonia for prosecution / to serve a sentence over large-scale tax evasion, fraudulent conversion,” the Interpol website said.

He was among the 25 nominees for the new cabinet of the Government of National Unity who are expected to be introduced to the Lower House of Parliament – Wolesi Jirga this week to obtain vote of confidence.

The Afghan lawmakers had earlier warned to reject nominees who are involved in corruption.
