Earlier, Atmar in a letter introduced Wali Naeemi as Chargé d’affaires of Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

The current Chargé d’affaires, Naseer Ahmad Faiq, said on Twitter that he will continue in his position.

Fortunately, the letter of Mr. Atmar, former Foreign Minister, was not accepted by the UN officials, Faiq said. I will be continuing as Chargé d’affaires of the permanent mission with all the challenges. I consider this duty a national responsibility to represent the dignified people of Afghanistan.

Earlier, a statement released by the Afghanistan Permanent Mission to the United Nations said that Wali Naeemi is appointed as Chargé d’affaires of the mission.

Until a (recognized) government is formed, no one can represent the country. These organizations are not accepting it. And, therefore, all international organizations, and various countries, call for the formation of a (recognized) government, said Javid Sangdel, a political analyst.

Based on the international law this chair (UN seat) should be given to those who have direct contacts with the nation, and have the control and responsibility of the country, said Abdul Haq Humadi, a political analyst.

After the Islamic Emirate came to power, acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi in a letter to the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres introduced Suhail Shaheen as Afghanistan’s ambassador to the UN.

A nine-member committee of the UN, which included Russia and China, postponed the decision to consider allowing the Islamic Emirate take the control of the seat.
