US President Donald Trump, who lacks a moral compass, is playing a dangerous game with people’s lives, according to an American political analyst.

Former congressional staffer Rodney Martin told Press TV in an interview on on Saturday that the decision by Trump and some Republican governors to re-open businesses amid the deadly coronavirus pandemic was not only irresponsible, but also it showed that the president lacks a moral compass.

Well, this is a very, very dangerous game that the president is playing. He’s playing a political game with people’s lives, Martin said, adding that when you have a leader, that doesn’t have a moral compass or a conscience, then that’s inherently dangerous, in and of itself.

The Arizona-based commentator said that Trump is dangerous for Americans as well as the rest of the world with his irresponsible behavior and disregard for science and medical experts suggestions during the global outbreak of COIVD-19.

The analyst strongly criticized Trump for not heeding experts advice before and after the outbreak of disease, and for not taking the side of caution and protecting human life during this deadly crisis.

He insisted that Trump’s response has been, to put it mildly, grossly inept.

Trump should fight the virus and help all countries fight the virus that includes removing all sanctions on all countries, Martin noted.

He said Trump has made conditions for fighting the pandemic in countries like Iran and Venezuela more difficult. Of course, he’s been doing this in the form of sanctions in Iran and sanctions in Venezuela.

Martin said in the interview that his daughter, who is a nurse in a major hospital, had described her workplace as a warzone scene. I talk to her several times a day and she has described to me just a horrific picture of what medical professionals are facing - almost like a warzone type of setting.

He cited an article warning of future food shortages. Now foodstuffs in the United States, supply chains are beginning to be affected ... packed meat processing, packing houses have shut down ... overall produce having shortages, and other foodstuffs having shortages.

I don’t think we’re anywhere near close to the end of this and a premature startup of the economy might serve to spread this even faster and have a far more negative effect than to leave things, sitting in place right now until the science can address this, he said.

Martin said the situation was much worse that what the Trump administration was reporting. We have seen signs where people that have come out at the end COVID-19 infection getting reinfected. We have evidence of people that have gone to the hospital numerous times and have been misdiagnosed, not once, not twice, but three times and then finally, they get it right and test them and find out that they’ve had COVID-19 all along and they get put on a ventilator and then die.

He said a huge number of people were dying that were not being reported.These numbers are huge. I would estimate that these numbers are probably grossly undercounted. If we were to factor the number of people that have been misdiagnosed or just have not been counted this pandemic is probably far larger than it already is.

Meanwhile, the official US death toll from COVID-19, which surpassed 51,000 on Friday, is the highest in the world.

According to a Reuters tally 900,000 Americans have tested positive for the novel coronavirus infection.
