The Nasser Hospital Complex in southern Gaza has condemned Doctors Without Borders (MSF) for suspending activities at the facility over what the international medical charity described as concerns about the presence of armed men and weapons at the medical facility.

MSF said Saturday it had suspended "non-critical" medical activities at the hospital, citing alleged security breaches that posed "serious" threats to its teams and patients.

The Geneva-based charity said there had been an increase in reports from patients and staff of seeing "armed men" in parts of the compound.

In a statement issued Sunday, Nasser Hospital described MSF`s claims as "false, unsubstantiated, and misleading."

It warned that such allegations pose a "serious risk" to one of the last functioning major civilian medical centers in the besieged territory.

The hospital said MSF had issued statements that "misrepresent facts and mirror narratives historically used to justify attacks" on hospitals, "despite full transparency and repeated clarification."

"Such statements are not neutral," it said, warning that they "foreseeably endanger Nasser Hospital Complex," which serves more than one million residents in the coastal strip.

The hospital demanded that MSF "immediately retract all allegations regarding weapons or armed presence" and "publicly reaffirm commitment to medical neutrality grounded in verified facts."

It pointed out that the Gaza Strip is "under an extreme and prolonged state of emergency resulting from systematic attacks on civilian institutions."

Doctors Against Genocide, which is a group supporting health care workers in Gaza, also said MSF has made "false allegations" against the Nasser Medical Complex.

Posting on social media, the group said, "The consequences of these false accusations have placed healthcare workers and patients at Nasser Hospital Complex at risk of attacks and loss of life."

While suspending non-critical services, MSF said it continues to provide some lifesaving care at the hospital, including inpatient and surgical treatment for certain patients.

Gaza`s healthcare system has been severely strained by more than two years of Israel`s genocidal war on the territory, with repeated damage to hospitals and critical infrastructure.
