Iran`s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf says the recent foreign-backed riots were a "quasi-coup and a complementary link" in the 12-day US-Israeli aggression against Iran in June.

Speaking in a phone conversation with his Turkish counterpart Numan Kurtulmuş on Thursday, Qalibaf thanked Turkish leaders for their clear support of the Iranian government and people and described the recent 2-3 days of unrest in Iran as "large-scale terrorist operations of the Daesh type, with even greater violence."

What began late last month as peaceful protests over economic hardship across Iran turned violent after public statements by US and Israeli regime figures encouraged vandalism and disorder.

During the unrest, foreign-backed mercenaries rampaged through cities, killing security forces and civilians and damaging public property.

He called these actions a "quasi-coup and a complementary link in the 12-day war against the Iranian nation."

On June 13, Israel launched an unprovoked war against Iran, assassinating many high-ranking military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary civilians.

More than a week later, the United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites in a grave violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.

He added that Israel and US openly supported terrorists responsible for killing Iranian civilians and, in some cases, security personnel, in an attempt to recover from previous failures.

Qalibaf stressed that "thanks to the prudence of security forces and the presence of the people, calm has been restored in all Iranian cities" and warned that "the Zionist regime seeks to weaken and divide all Islamic countries."

Kurtulmuş, for his part, expressed condolences for the hundreds of Iranians killed in the recent terrorist operations, saying, "Iran`s security and welfare is Turkey`s security and welfare, and your pain is our pain."

He echoed Qalibaf`s view on Israel, stating that the regime`s primary power lies in undermining the unity of Islamic countries and dividing them.

Referring to recent remarks by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Kurtulmuş expressed hope that "with the measures taken, the Iranian people and government will live in peace and stability."

On Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also addressed the situation in Iran, saying, "Our neighbor, Iran, is facing a new challenge following Israeli attacks, which threatens the country`s social peace and stability."

"We believe that our Iranian brothers, guided by a wise and thoughtful policy that prioritizes dialogue and diplomacy, will, God willing, overcome this treacherous and malicious situation," he added.
