The Iranian foreign minister says calm has been restored across the country after recent unrest, which was fueled by the incitement of terrorist elements supported by Israel and the US.

"Through the vigilance of the people and law enforcement forces, calm has been established," Abbas Araghchi said on Wednesday, referring to recent protests that he said were initially peaceful but later turned violent.

Araghchi made the remarks during a telephone conversation with Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, deputy prime minister and foreign minister of the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

During the phone call, Araghchi referred to the recent unrest in Iran, saying "it occurred as a result of the incitement of certain terrorist elements by Israel and the US, with the aim of pushing peaceful public protests into chaos."

He reiterated that public awareness and the actions of security forces had led to the restoration of order. Araghchi also pointed to what he described as provocative statements by US officials, which he said constituted clear interference in Iran`s internal affairs.

He stressed the determination of the Iranian people to defend national sovereignty and security against what any form of foreign hostility or intervention.

Sheikh Abdullah, for his part, underscored the importance of continued consultations between Iran, the UAE and other regional countries, stressing the need for joint efforts to strengthen regional stability and security.

The two officials also discussed regional and international developments as well as bilateral relations.

In a separate telephone call on Tuesday evening, Araghchi spoke with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, during which the two ministers exchanged views on the latest regional developments.

During the conversation, Araghchi outlined events of recent days in Iran and said peaceful protests had been driven into violence by foreign-linked violent elements.

He said the unrest resulted in the deaths of several Iranian citizens. He also shared details with his Turkish counterpart regarding foreign interference and the course of the unrest.

Araghchi also held a telephone conversation with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot to discuss bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments.

During that call, the two sides exchanged views on relations between Iran and France in various fields, including consular matters. Araghchi referred to the events of the previous days in Iran and said peaceful protests had been turned violent by foreign-trained terrorist elements.

He said the violence led to the killing of a number of Iranians, damage to people`s property and destruction of public infrastructure.

He also called on France to condemn interventionist actions by foreign actors in the internal affairs of countries.
