At least 37 civilians have been killed and 425 more wounded in this week`s border between Pakistan and Taliban, the UN mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said Thursday.

UNAMA said the casualties were recorded in six provinces affected by the clashes, including Paktia, Paktika, Kunar, Khost, Kandahar and Helmand.

The violence follows days of artillery exchanges and reported airstrikes between Taliban and Pakistani forces, marking one of the most severe escalations along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border since the Taliban regained control of the country in 2021.

Taliban have confirmed that Pakistan carried out drone strikes in Kabul just hours before a ceasefire was declared. Pakistani officials have not commented publicly, but Pakistani media have said the strikes targeted militant hideouts inside Afghanistan.

UNAMA has urged both sides to protect civilians and commit to the ceasefire.
