Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says the Munich Security Conference`s anti-Iran focus has turned the forum into a "circus," exposing Europe`s loss of geopolitical weight and strategic relevance.

In a series of posts published on X on Saturday, Araghchi wrote: "Sad to see the usually serious Munich Security Conference turned into the ‘Munich Circus` when it comes to Iran. This decline, with performance preferred over substance, holds important messages:"

"The EU appears confused, rooted in an inability to understand what is happening inside Iran," he said, adding that "Strategically, an aimless EU has lost all geopolitical weight in our region."

"Germany, specifically, is leading the way in wholly surrendering its regional policy to Israel," added the top diplomat.

The Munich Security Conference, attended annually by heads of state, foreign ministers, military officials and policy experts, is widely described as the world`s premier platform for debating global security challenges.

However, the Iran-related panels were marked by sharp rhetoric. Several participants openly called for military aggression against Iran. Among them was the son of the deposed Shah, Reza Pahlavi, who used the platform to advocate increased pressure and even military action against Tehran.

Araghchi said Europe`s broader direction is deeply troubling. "Europe`s overall trajectory is dire, to say the least," he wrote.

He added that the European Union`s diminished standing is evident in ongoing diplomatic efforts. "What does this all mean, in practical terms? The paralysis and irrelevance of the EU/E3 is displayed in the dynamics surrounding the current talks over Iran`s nuclear program."

The Iranian foreign minister said that Europe, once considered a key intermediary in nuclear diplomacy, no longer plays a meaningful role. "Once a key interlocutor, Europe is now nowhere to be seen. Instead, our friends in the region are far more effective and helpful than an empty-handed and peripheral E3."

The remarks come as Iran and the US resumed indirect talks on the nuclear issue in Oman on February 6.
