Qatar says it is continuing high-level political consultations with Iran and other regional actors in an effort to prevent further escalation of tensions amid warmongering by the United States.

Speaking at a press briefing in Doha on Tuesday, Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari said contacts with Iran are ongoing at the highest levels, including between Qatar`s emir and the Iranian president, as well as through visits and communications involving senior Qatari officials.

"These contacts are aimed at de-escalation in the region and preventing a return to escalation," Ansari said.

He said Qatar is coordinating closely with neighboring and friendly countries, including Turkey, Egypt, Oman and Saudi Arabia, as part of a broader regional effort to contain tensions.

"Qatar is not standing alone on this," he said. "We are working together in tandem to make sure that we de-escalate and protect our region."

Ansari warned against the risk of expanding regional crises, saying the current situation, particularly concerning Iran, can only be addressed through dialogue and a return to negotiations and that Doha is prioritizing diplomatic options while taking necessary precautions.

He reiterated that dialogue remains the only realistic way to resolve complex regional crises, warning that alternatives to negotiations would only deepen instability and insecurity.

There has been significant American military buildup across West Asia recently, including in the Persian Gulf. US President Donald Trump has also threatened fresh military action targeting the Islamic Republic.

Iranian officials have vowed that any act of aggression against the country will be met with a swift and powerful response.

Tehran has also underlined its intention to resolve existing tensions and differences through dialogue and diplomacy.

Over the past few days, Qatari officials have met with Iranian officials within the framework of ongoing good offices and consultations among regional countries on current regional developments, with discussions focusing on preserving peace and stability in the region.

On February 1, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani met with Abbas Araghchi and Ali Larijani, secretary of Iran`s Supreme National Security Council.

Throughout the meetings, the Qatari official emphasized Doha`s support for all initiatives aimed at lowering tensions and achieving peaceful solutions that strengthen security and stability across the region.
