President Trump on Sunday said land ownership is one of the main sticking points in the plan for peace in the Russia-Ukraine war.

"In your mind, sir, what are the thorniest issues still unresolved after the -" a reporter asked Trump during a press conference at Mar-a-Lago following his meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"Well, I think the land - you`re talking about - some of that land has been taken. Some of that land is maybe up for grabs, but it may be taken over the next period of a number of months - and you`re better off making a deal now," Trump responded.

In the last year, the Trump administration has pushed for an end to the war in Ukraine to little success. Trump met with Zelensky on Sunday after a call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Securing specific portions of land has always been a main goal for Putin. He has said that he will not stop fighting until Ukraine withdraws its troops from all of the Ukrainian regions that Russia annexed in 2022, according to the Associated Press.

On Sunday, Zelensky said that Ukrainian and American negotiators moved notably forward on his 20-point peace proposal during their meeting.

"We discussed all the aspects of the peace framework ... [the] 20-point peace plan [is] 90 percent agreed," the Ukrainian president said alongside Trump.

Zelensky also said the Americans agreed "100 percent" with the portions of the plan outlining U.S. security guarantees. The U.S., Ukraine and European countries were "almost" agreeing on joint security guarantees for Ukraine, according to Zelensky.

Earlier Saturday, Russia went through with multiple strikes on Ukraine that killed at least one person and injured many others.
