Lennart Monterlos, a French-German national accused of espionage, was arrested in the city of Bandar Abbas on June 16, 2025, on the third day of the Israeli-US aggression against Iran.

An Iranian court has acquitted Lennart Monterlos, a German national with French citizenship, accused of espionage.

The head of Hormozgan Province`s Judiciary Mojtaba Ghahremani said on Monday that the Islamic Revolution Court of Bandar Abbas issued the acquittal in the case of Monterlos, who was arrested on spying charges during the Israeli-US aggression of June against Iran.

He said the court thoroughly examined and reviewed the case despite the French-German national`s arrest under special wartime conditions and the issuance of an indictment against him.

"Taking into account legal principles and doubts about the alleged crime, the Court issued a verdict of acquittal of the defendant, although according to the law, the prosecutor retains the right to object to the ruling."

The official also said Iran`s Judiciary is seeking to enforce the law, uphold justice, and maintain impartiality in defiance of certain foreign politicians` double standards towards the Iranian nation.

Hormozgan Province`s Judiciary is investigating espionage cases with due diligence, and it will deal decisively with the convicts if their criminal act is proven.

On June 13, Israel launched a blatant act of aggression against Iran, triggering a 12-day war that killed at least 1,064 people, including military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary citizens. The United States also entered the war by bombing three Iranian nuclear sites in a grave violation of international law.

In response, the Iranian Armed Forces targeted strategic sites across the occupied territories as well as the Al-Udeid air base in Qatar, the largest American military base in West Asia.

On June 24, Iran, through its successful retaliatory operations, managed to impose a halt to the illegal assault.
Man convicted of working with Israel`s Mossad executed in Iran

In the course of the war, Iranian intelligence and security forces arrested more than 700 people who acted in espionage and sabotage networks across the country.

They were accused of using attack drones, building bombs, spying on military sites, and transmitting information to Israel.

In recent weeks, several of those convicted of collaborating with the Mossad spy agency have been executed following due legal process and the confirmation of their death sentences by Iran`s Supreme Court.
