Iran`s minister of education says 279 students and 67 teachers have been martyred, and hundreds of schools were damaged during the recent war of aggression launched by the United States and Israel against the Islamic Republic.

Alireza Kazemi provided the figures on Monday, stating that more than 200 pupils and tutors were also wounded during the bloody onslaught.

Referring to infrastructural damage inflicted on the country`s education, Kazemi said some 1,200 educational and administrative units as well as camping facilities were either damaged or destroyed.

He added that of these, 1,000 educational centers sustained damage.

He highlighted that twenty schools were also leveled to the ground in the US-Israeli bombardments. Work on their reconstruction has started, and the schools will be operational next year.

The capital province of Tehran, the central province of Markazi, and the southern coastal province of Hormozgan bore the brunt of the attacks on educational facilities, according to the minister.

On February 28, the US and Israeli regime launched a large-scale war of aggression against Iran, assassinating the late Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and several high-ranking military commanders.

In response, Iranian Armed Forces executed 100 waves of counterattacks in 40 days, targeting US and Israeli military assets in the region, which resulted in significant damage.

A Pakistani-mediated two-week ceasefire was brokered on April 8, allowing for negotiations in Islamabad. A first round of talks on April 11-12 failed to produce an agreement.
