In less than ten days, at least three senior commanders of Afghanistan`s National Resistance Front (NRF), led by Ahmad Massoud, have been killed in ambushes by Taliban forces. The deaths of these commanders have raised a wave of questions about the leadership and command structure of the National Resistance Front and sparked widespread debate over the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

According to AnsarPress, about ten days ago, Hasib Panjshiri, a senior commander of Afghanistan`s National Resistance Front, and two of his companions were killed in a Taliban ambush in Northern Salang.

The Taliban have claimed that, following the killing of Hasib Panjshiri and his two companions, they also arrested nine other members of the National Resistance Front. The National Resistance Front, however, has not yet commented on the claim.

On Thursday this week, the Taliban also killed two National Resistance Front commanders in another ambush in Nahrin District of Baghlan Province.

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan confirmed today that Shamsuddin and Commander Baba, two of its commanders, were killed in a Taliban ambush in Baghlan.

The Taliban have also claimed that they killed two other members of the National Resistance Front in Khost District of Baghlan, but the National Resistance Front and independent sources have not confirmed the claim. Independent sources said the two young men were not members of any anti-Taliban front and were shot and killed despite being innocent.

"The Killing of Hasib Panjshiri and Internal Divisions within the National Resistance Front"

The killing of Hasib Panjshiri in a Taliban ambush, followed by the release of an audio message attributed to him in which he spoke of a dispute with a man named Tariq Mohammadi, described as the maternal uncle of Ahmad Massoud, the leader of the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan, has raised numerous questions about internal divisions within the front.

In the audio message attributed to Hasib Panjshiri, he reportedly said that Tariq Mohammadi was attempting to locate and expose the position of the National Resistance Front commander inside Afghanistan.

Many supporters of the National Resistance Front now claim that Hasib Panjshiri`s killing was the result of an internal plot and conspiracy, and they have accused Tariq Mohammadi of being involved in the commander`s death.

There have also been unconfirmed reports that Tariq Mohammadi was expelled from the National Resistance Front following Hasib Panjshiri`s killing.

This has fueled perceptions that internal divisions within the National Resistance Front are deepening and have now reached a point where parts of these disputes are being leaked to the media.

Beyond that, if internal divisions are indeed contributing to commanders falling into Taliban traps, this could seriously weaken the front`s position on the battlefield and inflict heavy losses on the National Resistance Front.

Following the death of Hasib Panjshiri, two other National Resistance Front commanders were killed in Baghlan. However, the circumstances surrounding their deaths remain unclear.

"Personal Carelessness"

Apart from the view that internal divisions among members of the National Resistance Front may be a major factor behind commanders being caught in Taliban ambushes, some observers have attributed the incidents to the independent actions and carelessness of certain individuals.

Sources within the National Resistance Front have reported that some members of the front have carried out movements and transfers inside Afghanistan without informing senior commanders or the leadership. These actions, the sources said, resulted in their positions being detected and ultimately led to them being trapped by the Taliban.

The sources said the Taliban`s intelligence services are actively seeking to track down and eliminate commanders and members of the National Resistance Front, as well as members of other anti-Taliban fronts. However, some members and fighters of the resistance front occasionally ignore this reality.

The fact that National Resistance Front commanders have been killed in urban areas also indicates that they had entered populated areas and had potentially moved away from their positions in the country`s mountainous and elevated areas, where they had previously operated from more secure strongholds.

Regardless of whether the underlying cause is internal division or personal carelessness, the recent losses will be a serious blow to the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan and are likely to have a significant impact on its morale and military capabilities.

Experts believe that the leadership of the National Resistance Front should reconsider the front`s military strategy and take measures to reduce the loss of commanders and prevent them from falling into Taliban ambushes.
