The Chinese capital is hosting the World Humanoid Robot Games, bringing together more than 2,000 robots from around the world for an Olympic-style showdown.

The five-day event features more than 50 disciplines and over 1,000 competitions, including running, table tennis, football and weightlifting. Robots from 16 countries, including Germany, Japan and the United States, are taking part.

On the opening day, Chinese robots reportedly set several records, including in the 100-meter sprint, surpassing the mark set by retired Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt.

China`s rapid advances in robotics and artificial intelligence have also raised concerns in the United States. Last month, Washington announced a ban on imports of new foreign-made humanoid robots, particularly from China, citing security concerns. Beijing responded by imposing sanctions on a number of American firms.
