Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says it has been the United States, and not Iran, that began attacking civilian infrastructure, warning of "grave" consequences.

In a post on his X account on Saturday, Araghchi slammed US "blatant and desperate crime" of attacking a freshwater desalination plant on Qeshm Island.

"Attacking Iran`s infrastructure is a dangerous move with grave consequences. The US set this precedent, not Iran," the top Iranian diplomat added.

He noted that the US attack on Qeshm Island impacted water supply in 30 villages.

Deputy Governor General of Hormuzgan Province Ahmad Nafisi said on Saturday that the US-Israeli enemy carried out an attack on one of the freshwater desalination plants on Qeshm Island on Friday night in a gross and desperate crime.

He added that the attack targeted the freshwater desalination plant and part of the island`s water and electricity infrastructures, which supplied some 12,000-15,000 liters of water to Qeshm and its villages.

The US and Israel started a fresh round of large-scale military aggression on Iran on February 28, some eight months after they carried out unprovoked attacks on the country.

Iran began to swiftly carry out extensive retaliatory attacks on Israel and US with missiles and drones successfully hitting targets in the Israeli-occupied territories as well as US military assets in regional countries.
