US President Trump said Tuesday in an interview with The Hill`s sister network NewsNation that he will match Europe if it moves to threaten the U.S. on trade amid rising tensions over Greenland.

"See anything they do with us, I`ll just meet it. All I have to do is meet it, and it`s going to go ricocheting backward," Trump told NewsNation`s Katie Pavlich on "Katie Pavlich Tonight."

"But we`re not looking at that. We`ll probably be able to work something out, possibly even during the next few days in Davos," he continued.

The interview comes as Trump travels to Davos, Switzerland for the World Economic Forum where he`ll come face to face with a number of European allies who have raised concerns of his vocal ambitions for the U.S. to acquire Greenland.

Over the weekend, Trump levied 10 percent tariffs on Denmark and its European allies over Greenland. Additionally, the president has not ruled out military force to acquire the territory.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer issued a rare criticism of Trump over the issue, saying at a press conference earlier that "any decision about the future status of Greenland belongs to the people of Greenland and the kingdom of Denmark alone."

Trump on Tuesday also shared a screenshot of a conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron in which Macron tells him, "I do not understand what you are doing on Greenland."

However, Trump appeared optimistic at Tuesday`s press briefing, predicting a deal would be made on Greenland at Davos.

"I think we`re going to work something out where NATO`s going to be very happy and we`re going to be very happy," Trump said.
