Gaza Health Ministry: 6,000 amputees need urgent long-term rehabilitation
The Gaza Health Ministry says 6,000 people who suffered limb amputations amid Israel`s genocidal war require immediate long-term rehabilitation, warning of a shocking and worsening humanitarian reality for thousands of wounded survivors. In a statement commemorating the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the ministry said the situation for amputees in Gaza has reached an alarming level, with thousands left without the medical, psychological, or social support needed to cope with life-altering injuries. The ministry noted that thousands of injured civilians and their relatives are enduring "deep humanitarian suffering," emphasizing the critical requirement for ongoing physical therapy alongside mental and community support. According to the ministry, children account for 25 percent of all amputations, and the minors are facing lifelong impairments from a young age. It called on relevant international organizations to urgently prioritize care for Gaza`s amputees and to scale up access to specialized rehabilitation, prosthetics, and mental-health programs.
