More Americans say Trump has helped raise prices rather than lower them: Survey
Americans are more likely to say President Trump has raised prices than lower them since returning to office this year, according to a new survey. In a Yahoo/YouGov poll, conducted in late November, 49 percent of those surveyed say Trump has done more to increase prices, while 24 percent say he`s done more to lower prices. Another 17 percent say he`s done "about the same," and 10 percent say they`re not sure. The latest survey comes as the consumer price index showed prices rose 3 percent in the 12-month period ending in September. There`s a clear partisan divide in the way Americans perceive Trump`s effect on prices. Among independent voters, 54 percent say the president has done more to raise prices, while 18 percent say he`s done more to lower them. Most Democrats, at 86 percent, say Trump has helped increase prices, while only 1 percent say he`s helped lower prices. And Republicans are more likely to say Trump has helped lower prices - at 53 percent - while just 12 percent say he`s helped raise prices. The survey comes as Trump has renewed his focus on cost of living, as Democratic candidates who zeroed in on an affordability message during last month`s elections proved successful in races around the country. The survey was conducted on Nov. 21-24 and included 1,684 adults. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
