Ukrainian negotiators are meeting US officials in Florida to discuss details of Washington`s proposed framework to end the war as Russian forces continue to make gains on the frontlines.

US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, special envoy Steve Witkoff, and President Donald Trump`s son-in-law Jared Kushner, are meeting with a Ukrainian delegation on Sunday.

The talks, aimed at revising a 28-point plan drawn up by US and Russian officials last week, were described by the Ukrainian side as "steps toward achieving a just peace."

Rubio, however, said the objective is "not just about peace deals" but securing "an end to the war that leaves Ukraine sovereign and independent."

The original US-Russian draft reportedly included Ukrainian withdrawal from eastern Donbas cities, limitations on the size of its army, and restrictions on joining NATO.

The latest revisions, led by the Ukrainian delegation in Florida, aim to ensure that any territorial discussions start from the current frontline and that Kiev retains control over its EU and NATO aspirations.

Witkoff is expected to travel to Moscow to discuss the peace plan with the Russian officials.

Ukraine is facing mounting pressure from Washington to accept a ceasefire. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has acknowledged that his country is in the most difficult political and military situation since Russia launched its "special operation" more than three years ago.

Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the Ukrainian ambassador to Britain, also wrote on social media that the country is "in an extremely difficult situation, where a rushed peace will only lead to a devastating defeat and loss of independence."

Kiev and its European allies have opposed the US-proposed plan, claiming it reflects Russian demands.

Zelensky is scheduled to meet French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Monday to discuss "the conditions for a just and lasting peace," according to Macron`s office.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said earlier that peace is "within reach" but threatened Russia with intensified European sanctions if President Vladimir Putin refuses to accept a ceasefire.

US Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent said last week that Europeans need to know Brussels` sanctions against Moscow over the Ukraine conflict have proven ineffective and failed to weaken Russia as intended.
