Four people were killed and 10 others were injured during a shooting at a family event in Stockon, Calif., officials said Saturday.
The incident, which was likely targeted, occurred shortly before 6 p.m. local time, per a statement from the San Joaquin County Sheriff`s Office. The shooter is still a large, District Attorney Ron Freitas said at a Saturday evening press conference.
Victims, according to The Associated Press, include adults and children. Stockton`s Vice Mayor Jason Lee said the shooting took place at a child`s birthday party near the 1900 block of Lucile Ave in the Northern California city.
"A birthday party should never be a place where families fear for their lives," Lee wrote on Facebook.
Authorities have not provided any additional details about the suspected shooter and have urged the public to share any information about the deadly incident.
"Families should be together instead of at the hospital, standing next to their loved one, praying that they survive," Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi said at Saturday`s presser.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has been briefed on the shooting and in contact with local officials, his office said on social media.
