Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan is scheduled to visit Tehran to hold a series of high-level meetings with senior Iranian officials.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Saturday that the Turkish foreign minister will arrive in Tehran on Sunday.

He added that Fidan will discuss the latest developments in bilateral ties as well as regional and international issues with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other authorities.

According to Turkish diplomatic sources, talks will focus on enhancing the institutional framework of the High-Level Cooperation Council, reviewing preparations for its upcoming ninth meeting, and advancing joint efforts to deepen security and counterterrorism cooperation.

They noted that the two sides are expected to discuss accelerating border trade infrastructure and advancing their shared goal of expanding bilateral trade to $30 billion, from $6.5 billion as of October.

The top Turkish diplomat will also exchange views with Iranian authorities about regional stability, particularly the situation in Gaza and Syria, Israel`s moves in the region, and a peaceful resolution to Iran`s nuclear program, the sources added.

The Russia-Ukraine war, developments in the South Caucasus, and efforts to defuse tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan are also on the agenda of the talks in Tehran.
