The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has called for an investigation into Israel`s deadly airstrikes on Lebanon, emphasizing that those responsible must be held accountable.

On November 19, an Israeli strike hit Ain al-Hilweh, Lebanon`s largest Palestinian refugee camp in the south, killing at least 14 people, including children, and injuring several others, the Lebanese health ministry reported.

Thameen al-Kheetan, a spokesperson for the UN human rights office, said at a press briefing in Geneva on Tuesday that "all the fatalities we have documented as a result of this strike were civilians."

He called for "prompt and impartial investigations into the Ain al-Hilweh strike, as well as all other incidents," adding, "Those responsible must be brought to justice."

Israel claimed the attack targeted "a Hamas training compound" used to plan and carry out operations against the regime, an allegation Hamas denied.

The rights office expressed concern that nearly a year after a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel, the world continues "to witness increasing attacks by Israel."

Al-Kheetan said the regime`s attacks have killed at least 127 civilians in Lebanon since the ceasefire agreement took effect on November 27, 2024.

The UN spokesperson added that over 64,000 people, mostly from southern Lebanon, remain displaced as a result of Israel`s continued aggression.

"These attacks have also severely hampered reconstruction efforts and attempts by internally displaced people to return to their homes in southern Lebanon," Al-Kheetan stated.

He reiterated that only a permanent cessation of violations can protect civilians from further harm.

In a latest violation of the ceasefire, Israel assassinated top Hezbollah commander Haitham Tabatabai in an attack on a residential area near Beirut on Sunday.

Hezbollah warned that Israel has committed a grave mistake, saying the resistance group is considering its response to the killing.

Hezbollah reiterated that such killings only reinforce the movement`s resolve and determination to confront the Israeli regime.
