1 teen dead and 8 injured in separate downtown Chicago shootings
No suspects have been arrested in connection with either incident, police said.
A teenager was fatally shot and at least eight other teens were wounded in separate shootings in downtown Chicago on Friday night, according to authorities. The first shooting occurred at 9:50 p.m. near the Chicago Theater, with seven teenagers ages 13 to 17 sustaining gunshot wounds, according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department. All of the teenagers were transported to local hospitals and have survived, police said. The second shooting occurred less than an hour later in the same neighborhood, according to police. Both victims in the second shooting were 18 years old. One of them was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. No suspects have been arrested in connection with either incident, police said. In recent weeks, President Donald Trump has been trying to deploy the National Guard to Chicago in a stated effort to stem crime and illegal immigration. Democratic officials have pushed back, arguing that the president is exaggerating the need to combat crime in the city for political gain.
