Some members of Wolesi Jirga or lower house of parliament on Monday while expressing serious concerns over deteriorating security situation in the country said that the self-styled Islamic State (IS) or Daesh group was spreading in the country with the help of foreign intelligence agencies.

Kamal Naser Asoolia , lawmaker from southeastern Khost province, said: “Foreign intelligence agencies have active support behind Daesh and the group is getting strength in Afghanistan.”

Without elaborating, he claimed those spoke more about Daesh in talk shows had contacts with Pakistani Embassy in Kabul and exaggerated presence of the group in the country.

He said leaders of the unity government should be summoned to explain about presence of the group in the country. He also urged the Wolesi Jirga to take serious measures otherwise Daesh was turning into a strong group.

Kiramuddin Raza Zada, another MP from Ghor, said Charsada and Pasawand districts in his province were in danger of falling to insurgents.

Abdul Wadood Paiman, a lawmaker from Kunduz, asked unity government: “Don’t politicize security institutions otherwise many parts of the country will fall.”

He said security in Kunduz was deteriorated due to differences among local officials.

Haji Zahir Qadeer, first deputy speaker who chaired the session, said Afghans were fed-up of proxy wars in their country.

He said the government had promised to present the result of their work every six months and they should honor this promise.

Despite promises, he said, leaders of the unity government could not bring reforms in many sectors.

Another lawmaker, Shukria Barekzai criticized government’s performance that security could not be beefed up in the country.

She said the government was too busy distributing power instead of focusing on people’s grievances.
